  Loire : River of Kings - French Wine Tours

Western and Central

The wines of Muscadet, Savennieres, Anjou, Saumur Champigny and Coteaux du Layon

Whenever possible, we will arrange shipment of any wines you wish to buy.

Day 1

· Arrive Angers train station. Personal greeting and escort to the Chateau de Noirieux.
·
Settle in hotel. Relax and unwind in the grounds.
·
Pre-dinner tasting of Loire wines with your personal guide and wine expert, and the sommelier of the hotel.
·
Dinner in the hotel’s superb dining room, featuring fresh local produce and great Loire wines.

Day 2

· After breakfast at the hotel, we take our private minibus to Muscadet country.
·
Our first tasting is in the small town of Vallet, at the winery Grande Garde.
·
Just a few miles on, our second tasting is at Clos des Yonnieres in the village of Le Landreau.
·
We lunch in the town of Champtoceaux, perched on the Loire, at the Michelin-starred Les Jardins de la Forge.
·
Our afternoon tasting is in the Savennieres region at Chateau de Chamboureau - some of the most refined examples of the chenin grape in the world.
·
Relax, relax, relax at the hotel.
·
Pre-dinner wine tasting with our sommelier.
·
Dinner at the hotel.

Day 3

· We breakfast at the hotel then take our minibus for a tasting of Saumur-Champigny at Domaine de Saint-Just.
·
A leisurely drive to Chateau de la Roulerie to taste their superb Coteaux du Layon.
·
We lunch at the Michelin-starred Licorne in nearby Fontevraud-l’Abbaye.
·
The afternoon tasting is at Domaine Dubois in the village of Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg.
·
Take it easy at the hotel.
·
Pre-dinner wine-tasting.
·
Grand dinner at the hotel, our last night there before moving on.

The Loire: Central and Eastern

 

The wines of Bourgueil, Chinon, Vouvray, Menetou-Salon, Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume

Day 4

· Breakfast at the Chateau. Our bags are loaded into our private minibus and we head off to Tours and our new luxury residence, the Chateau de Noizay.
·
Pre-dinner wine tasting at our chateau with your guide and wine expert, and the resident sommelier.
·
Dinner at the chateau with fine regional cuisine and top quality local wines.

Day 2 (Day 5 for continuation tour)

· After breakfast at the Chateau, we take our private minibus to Domaine des Ouches to taste some of their great Bourgueil.
·
We then cross to the south bank of the Loire to visit Chateau de Saint-Louand and sample their exquisite Chinon.
·
We return to our Chateau to relax over lunch.
·
In the afternoon we visit the white wine country of Vouvray for a tasting of delectable dessert wines at Domaine des Aubuisieres.
·
On to Domaine de la Galiniere to check out their range of award-winning sparkling wines.
·
Back to our Chateau to relax before dinner.

Day 3 (Day 6 for continuation tour)

· A leisurely breakfast, then off to the region of Menetou-Salon to taste sublime whites at Clos des Blanchais.
·
We lunch at the Michelin-starred restaurant Abbaye St-Ambroix in the historic city of Bourges.
·
Our first afternoon tasting is at the Domaine de Nozay - a Sancerre worthy of the finest palate.
·
Our final tasting of the day is of one of the best examples of Pouilly-Fume, at Domaine Masson Blondelet.
·
Awaiting us at our chateau is a grand farewell banquet with - of course - superb wines of the Loire.

Day 4 (Day 7 for continuation tour)

· After breakfast, we will escort you to Tours train station or airport for your onward journey.
