This is a tutored French Wine Course set in the most agreeable and relaxed surroundings of a hotel barge, gently drifting along the Canal du Midi in southern France's Languedoc region.

Your instructor will be John Sherwin, a top 'wine adviser' (sommelier conseil) from the renowned L'Universite du Vin de Suze-la-Rousse. He is also managing director of French Wine Tours, the only fully tailor-made wine tour company in France.

He has taught wine appreciation at all levels and has participated in judging major international wine competitions.

 
A typical day would consist of a late morning tutorial and tasting on board. After lunch on at least three days there will be visits to local Languedoc vineyards. A few non-wine activities are also scheduled into the itinerary for guests to enjoy the beautiful countryside and fascinating history of the region. In the evening you will sit down to a sumptuous dinner coupled with a more informal chat, particularly on the always interesting topic of matching food and wine.

The aim of the week's course is to give you an overview of wines from the major French wine regions, with a little bit of theory and a lot of practice! Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Loire and the Rhone will all be there to accompany the wines of Languedoc.
Along the way you will educate your eye, tastebuds, and nose to better appreciate (and judge) any wine. You will also be given important tips on glassware, storage, serving, food matching, and much more.

At the end of your week you will have the foundation and confidence to continue your wine appreciation independently - a lifelong pursuit !
