There’s no shortage of wine content on the internet. What’s harder to find is advice that’s genuinely useful for planning an actual trip — the kind that tells you not just what to drink, but where to park, when to book, and which winemaker will happily spend an hour with you even if you can’t tell Merlot from Malbec.
That’s what we do here.
Our Approach
We believe wine touring should be accessible to anyone with curiosity and a willingness to learn. You don’t need a WSET diploma to enjoy a cellar visit in Burgundy. You don’t need to know the 1855 Classification by heart to have a brilliant time in Bordeaux. You just need someone to point you in the right direction and save you from the common mistakes.
Our guides combine serious wine knowledge with the practical travel information that wine publications tend to skip. We’ll tell you about the terroir, yes — but we’ll also tell you where to find lunch afterwards, how to get there without a car, and whether the visit is worth the appointment hassle.
No Snobbery, No Shortcuts
Wine culture can be intimidating. French wine culture especially so. We’re not interested in making it more intimidating. Our guides are written for everyone from complete beginners to seasoned collectors, and we try to be clear without being condescending.
At the same time, we don’t water things down. When a region’s wines are complex, we’ll explain that complexity properly. When a famous estate isn’t worth the premium over its neighbour, we’ll say so. We’re not selling anything here — we’re just trying to help you have a better trip.
What We Cover
Our guides span France’s seven major wine-touring regions:
- Bordeaux — the grands crus, the city, and everything in between
- Burgundy — terroir, tradition, and the Route des Grands Crus
- Champagne — from the great houses to the grower revolution
- Loire Valley — France’s most diverse and underappreciated wine region
- Alsace — aromatic whites and the prettiest wine road in France
- Provence — beyond rosé (though the rosé is very good)
- Rhône Valley — Northern elegance meets Southern warmth
For each region, we cover the wines, the key appellations, practical visiting information, accommodation, food, and suggested itineraries. We also cover different tour styles for visitors who prefer varying levels of guidance and luxury.
Built from Experience
Our recommendations come from direct experience — visiting producers, driving the routes, staying in the hotels, eating in the restaurants. We update our guides regularly as regions change and new producers emerge. Wine country doesn’t stand still, and neither do we.
If you’re planning a trip to French wine country, start with our region overview to figure out where to go, then dive into the detailed guide for your chosen destination. And if something’s missing or wrong, let us know. We’re always looking to make these guides better.
